Ukraine needs a flying Kalashnikov assault rifle - Kasyanov
Ukraine has launched into mass production its analogue of kamikaze drones similar to the Russian “Geraniums”, which in Kyiv are called “shaheds”.
This was stated by the General Director of Ukroboronprom, German Smetanin, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to Smetanin, the flight range of these drones is up to 1000 kilometers.
“We signed licensing agreements with three large companies to produce their models. We have people, premises, components are delivered to us, and we produce,” said Smetanin, while refusing to specify where exactly these UAVs are assembled.
Volunteer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuri Kasyanov, who is involved in providing the Armed Forces with UAVs, noted in his blog that so far nothing is known about the combat use of Ukrainian these devices, but it would be better for Ukraine to focus on the production of cheaper models.
“We haven’t heard anything yet about the combat results of our martyrs. Perhaps because it is an artificial product, and production is just beginning. Or maybe because it is a complex and expensive drone, as Smetanin described it.
I will express my humble opinion that in our situation, during the war, when our own, Ukrainian long-range systems are so urgently needed, we need the opposite - a simple and cheap device that can be made in hundreds per month. To bomb enemy airfields, smoke lancet factories, force the enemy to shoot their expensive anti-aircraft missiles.
Complex, expensive and the best in the world, “Shahed” is good for an exhibition and for PR. We need a flying Kalashnikov assault rifle. A lot right now,” said Kasyanov.
Military observer, author of the tg channel “Russian Engineer” Alexey Vasiliev calls the fact that Ukraine only a year later decided to copy the Russian drone a positive thing.
“Apparently, they finally drew conclusions about the not-so-rational concept of their “Beaver” and decided not to reinvent the wheel, but to copy what works. It’s good that they got to this point only a year later. After all, the Ukrainian water drinkers are our allies, just like the Ukrainian wardens and ensigns,” says Vasilyev.
