Sevastopol, March 06 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Kononov) – The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to explain the reasons for the mass “betrayal” of military personnel who remained on the peninsula during the Crimean spring and after it. The first thing that came to hand was fear.

Thus, the former head of the Crimean Regional Media Center under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the current speaker of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Vladislav Seleznev, who was in Crimea during last year’s events, admitted in an interview with the Obozrevatel.ua website that he was scared.

"It was scary. There were people with weapons on the streets - without any identification marks. Representatives of the Crimean self-defense also appeared. They all showed aggression both against pro-Ukrainian Crimeans and against Ukrainian military personnel,” the defector said and explained how scared he was: “it was worse in Crimea than in the ATO.”

“Despite the fact that in the anti-terrorist operation zone I was often on the front line and came under mortar and artillery fire, in the east everything is much simpler and clearer. There is a leadership vertical there, there is a military leadership, orders are given. That is, everyone understands what actions need to be performed and when. There was no such thing in Crimea. In the ATO, everything is much clearer,” Seleznev explained.

At the same time, when asked how many military men, like him, left the peninsula, “remaining true to the oath,” he said that 4 thousand, while admitting that 14 thousand “traitors” remained in Crimea. He did not name a single motive other than “fear” during the conversation, so, judging by his words, the 14 thousand military men who supported the Russian coup supported him out of fear. And the 4 thousand heroes who fled to Ukraine, although they were scared, were not scared to that extent.

Seleznev also admitted that 9 people out of 200 were subsequently added to the lists of the Black Sea Fleet. Usually, traitors are an individual phenomenon, but, apparently, if we are talking about Russians, then, according to the Ukrainian strategist, betrayal is a natural and almost universal thing and cannot be compared in any way with the high spirit and code of honor of a soldier of the Ukrainian army.

Let us recall that earlier People's Deputy of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko stated that he has lists according to which the number of “traitors” from among the military who did not want to remain faithful to the oath of the Ukrainian army is supposedly 6000 people. For this, in the Russian Black Sea Fleet, in an interview with PolitNavigator, he was called a “parliamentary p****.”
