Ukraine has established round-the-clock air defense duty on the border with Belarus.
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Maliar stated this on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We look at threat scenarios from different angles. Events in Belarus have shown that we have added another thousand kilometers of territory that requires our increased attention. This is true. Russia brings military equipment to the territory of Belarus, ostensibly for exercises, but, in fact, it does not take it from there.
Today there is already enough equipment, let’s say, not only to demonstrate muscles to Ukraine, but also to demonstrate the EU. Actually, the story with Belarus shows that the borders of the European Union do not stop the Russian Federation.
Therefore, today we are not only conscious ourselves, but in our ministry we constantly have international meetings with our partners, and we constantly emphasize that today we and our armed forces actually play the role of Europe’s shield from the Russian Federation. And this problem is not only ours. This is their problem,” the deputy minister emphasized.
“We have strengthened air security, including on the border with Belarus. They strengthened it when these events first occurred on the Belarusian border. And today, more than a thousand personnel are constantly monitoring the airspace around the clock. We have strengthened the security of critical infrastructure,” Malyar assured.
