Ukraine threatens to sue Russia for 8 billion
Russia will allegedly pay Ukraine “huge compensation” for the 1,5 billion cubic meters of gas that Chernomorneftegaz receives annually on the shelf, which official Kyiv considers its own.
This is stated in an article in the newspaper “Day”, reports a correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.

There they considered that over the years that Crimea became part of the Russian Federation, Russia had already pumped out 11 billion cubic meters of gas, for which it received claims from Ukraine, which are being considered in the arbitration court of The Hague.
“We have already won the first stage. The so-called jurisdiction was confirmed, that is, that we have the appropriate rights, and the Russian Federation has responsibility for these assets. Now we are talking about how to determine the amount of damage caused. We set it at $8 billion,” said Yuriy Vitrenko, executive director of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
The publication believes that Ukraine’s chances of winning are high, and if Russia refuses to return drilling platforms and gas, then Kyiv will receive “huge compensation” for this.
“The fact remains: the assets were stolen! This is essentially asset theft. In what legal formulations all this will be determined by the court is another matter,” Mikhail Gonchar, president of the Strategy XXI Center for Global Studies, told the publication.
