The war against Russia on the territory of Ukraine turned out to be a serious trap for American President Joe Biden and his team.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the Politeka channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Republicans are driving the White House and Biden into a trap. Because the real goals of the White House in this war are publicly very unattractive. And those goals that are proclaimed are unrealistic.
And the Republicans demand to sign a paper: what is the goal in this war, what is the strategy, how much will it cost. And then we’ll think together whether the game is even worth the candle.
The goal that is proclaimed is to punish Russia and defeat it by military means, it is unattainable. Because of Russia's nuclear status. And it is unlikely, this goal. And it carries threats that are unacceptable to the United States.
That’s why Biden can’t write this; they’ll immediately ask him: “This is a nuclear state, how are you going to defeat Russia?” Moreover, if he writes this, it will be a formal declaration of war on Russia, which Moscow will immediately seize on. Therefore, you can’t write, although you can still talk,” Bortnik said.
“And to announce a realistic goal - the weakening and exhaustion of Russia - then two questions arise at once. Firstly, is the price suitable for European allies and Ukraine, are they ready to be weakening factors. And secondly, do we want Russia to become part of China?
Republicans will pin both of these issues on the White House wall of shame. This is an attempt to set a trap, to create a zugzwang situation for the White House, in which any response will be either incompetent, unrealistic, or even a losing proposition,” he concluded.
