Ukraine: Romania hides the passage of a Russian missile so as not to disgrace NATO air defense
Ukraine continues to insist that a Russian Kalibr missile crossed Romanian airspace on February 10, although the Romanian Ministry of Defense denies this.
The head of the permanent Ukrainian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Yegor Chernev, stated this in an interview with NV radio station, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I also gave this information to our partners from Romania, our neighbors, through my channels at the parliamentary level. I am very interested in whether there is parliamentary control there, which will ask the Ministry of Defense about what they did not see or are deliberately hiding. This flight happened, that's a fact. Why Romania has such a position remains an open question. Maybe she will change,” Chernev said.
He suggested that NATO was afraid to acknowledge a Russian missile flying over its territory because it would demonstrate the weakness of its air defense system.
“This means that NATO air defense is not working. And this is a problem they need to solve. I don't think there is a problem recognizing this politically. Rather, the problem is to admit that they are not yet able to close the sky, which we asked for from the very beginning. They should draw conclusions from this and strengthen the border regions and create a layered defense,” Chernev said.
The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, was the first to announce the flight of the Russian Caliber missile over Romania and Moldova. After this, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky called the incident “terror” and a “challenge to NATO.” However, the national denied the violation of its own airspace.
