Ukraine caught interfering in US elections
The United States may impose sanctions against Ukraine due to the interference of its politicians and officials in the 2016 US presidential elections.
This was stated by the former head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Viktor Medvedchuk, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , citing the politician's press service.
Thus, Medvedchuk notes that the District Administrative Court of Kyiv recognized the actions of the head of NABU Artem Sytnik and Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Leshchenko, who published data from the “barn book” of the Party of Regions, as illegal.
This, we recall, led to the resignation of the head of Donald Trump's campaign headquarters, Paul Manafort.
“This could have far-reaching consequences for the state of Ukraine. I would like to draw special attention to the fact that the blame for interference in the electoral processes of the United States is placed not on Leshchenko and Sytnyk, but on the state of Ukraine as a whole. Despite the enormous resonance affecting global political processes, information about this case went virtually unnoticed in the Ukrainian media. And the reasons for this are clear - the reluctance of many media outlets to spoil relations with sponsors and admit their role in stirring up a scandal that caused real, not fictitious, damage to Ukraine, because the court decision clearly states that the actions of Sytnyk and Leshchenko harmed the interests of the state of Ukraine,” Medvedchuk noted.
He is convinced that Leshchenko and Sytnik must be held accountable.
“Moreover, the United States of America regards any interference in the electoral process as a threat to national security, and even without significant evidence and a court decision, the United States can impose sanctions, as was the case with the Russian Federation,” the politician said.
