Ukraine received “the strongest knockout since independence”
Ukraine’s Western partners in the anti-Russian coalition “dumped” it, causing a crushing knockout, when they agreed to complete the construction of the Nord Stream 2 bypass gas pipeline.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadym Denisenko, who was a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, announced this on the air of the Apostrophe internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Denisenko, the policy of the Ukrainian government in previous years was wrong, and the blow from the West turned out to be the strongest in all the years of Ukraine’s independence.
“For the first time, perhaps, in the history of Ukraine, except for 2014, Ukraine was so boundlessly and cynically, I’m not afraid of this word, abandoned by its friends, partners and comrades in the anti-Russian coalition. In fact, we can clearly say that in principle it was not easy to reach an agreement,” the politician said.
“Nowadays there is a lot of talk about the agreement between Merkel and Biden... in fact, we need to talk, first of all, about the fact that obviously there was an agreement between Biden and Putin regarding the completion of the Nord Stream in exchange for certain things related with Russian-Chinese relations, then European-Chinese relations, and more globally – American-Chinese relations... Yes, our policy in recent years was obviously wrong, it was a losing one, and now we have received a crushing defeat. And this is not a technical knockout, but a serious knockout, if we talk about today,” Denisenko said.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Germany and the United States had reached a compromise on Nord Stream 2. The essence of the compromise, as announced by the State Department, is as follows: the Americans will cease their opposition to the pipeline's completion, and Berlin will be obligated to seek an extension of the contract for Russian gas transit through Ukraine for another ten years beyond 2024.
Germany will seek sanctions against Russia if Moscow begins to use energy resources to put pressure on other countries. Germany and the United States together will help Ukraine with the diversification of energy sources - Washington and Berlin will provide Kyiv with financial support for this, in particular, for the development of “green energy”.
