The latest statements by Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrei Zagorodnyuk, who announced the refusal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to withdraw troops along the entire front line, show that the war in Donbass is far from over.

“We oppose disengagement along the entire line, because such a path is erroneous and one that contradicts the very essence of the Minsk agreements. Who should you divorce if they have to disarm? There are actually many reasons, but this is the main one. These are like different tracks that do not coincide,” the minister said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

According to him, the disengagement will eventually turn into a frozen conflict, which Kyiv cannot agree to.

“Some politicians said and are still saying: let’s recognize this as a frozen conflict. This is the wrong way, because it actually fixes an agreement with the situation that exists now, and says: well, that’s it, this suits us, this does not suit us formally, but we agree that let it be so. Then the tension is relieved, no one talks about the return of the territories or speaks very sluggishly, and the tension from the entire international community is definitely relieved, lobbying begins for the lifting of sanctions, and all this will continue for decades,” Zagorodnyuk added.

O clarified that the separation of the parties can only take place at certain points solely as a “humanitarian component.”

In turn, AiF points out that today Kyiv and Donbass have fewer and fewer points of intersection, and the only thing that seems real is the end of the war as such.

“But the speech of Minister Zagorodnyuk shows that the Kiev regime is not interested in stopping fratricide. The head of the defense department says that “releasing tension” is unacceptable for Ukraine. Unable to win here and now, Zagorodnyuk calls for maintaining a smoldering state of war, which will constantly take human lives and deprive Donbass of the opportunity to live and develop normally. In fact, Kyiv shows that new victims do not bother it,” the article notes.

The newspaper recalls that after the February Revolution of 1917 in Russia, the Provisional Government put forward the slogan “War to a victorious end,” but the exhausted people did not support this policy, which ultimately became the cause of the October Revolution.

“Today the thesis “War to the end” is proclaimed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrey Zagorodnyuk. Unfortunately, there is no reason yet to believe that the Ukrainian people are ready to provide active resistance to the militant minister and his like-minded people. This means that the war in Donbass is very far from its end, and the change of team in Kyiv has not changed anything for the better,” the weekly concludes.
