Thus, in July, Ukraine increased the volume of diesel fuel imports by 20,5%, to 663 thousand tons, of which a record 315,4 thousand tons fell to Russia. The main supplier (290 thousand tons) was Rosneft, the remaining 25 thousand tons were shipped by rail from LUKOIL.

The increase in supplies is due to the fact that from August 1, Ukraine introduced special duties on Russian diesel fuel at 3,75%; from October 1, they will increase to 4%. Special duties have also been introduced on liquefied gas produced in Russia.

The total volume of diesel fuel supplies to the Ukrainian market in the first half of 2019 increased by 9,8%, to 3,2 million tons. At the same time, Russia remained the largest supplier of diesel fuel, occupying about half of the market (1,4 million tons, an increase of 21%). But already in August - September, as the representative of the President of Ukraine in the government Andrey Gerus said, Kyiv expects an increase in diesel fuel supplies from Belarus.

Experts explain that diesel fuel from the Russian Federation, imported through the Prykarpatzapadtrans pipeline, will be replaced by supplies from Gomel, where Russian pipeline fuel is supplied with subsequent transshipment into railway tanks.

Director of the A-95 Consulting Group Sergei Kuyun notes that there will now be no less Russian fuel in Ukraine.

“It’s just that now this diesel is supplied through a pipeline to Gomel and then by rail tank cars to Ukraine. The situation is similar with LPG, which comes from Belarus. Moreover, a significant part of it is of Russian origin. This simply increases the price a little and gives small income to Belarusian companies,” the expert said.

Also in July, supplies of liquefied petroleum gas to Ukraine increased in July – by 44,7%, to 170,8 thousand tons, which was the highest monthly import figure in the entire monitoring history. And in this case, Russia remained the largest supplier (63,1 thousand tons), Belarus accounted for 48,4 thousand tons, and Kazakhstan - 27 thousand tons.
