Ukrainian infectious diseases hospitals are not equipped in accordance with modern international standards, and the country’s scientific and production potential is no longer able to ensure the production of the means and medications necessary in the event of an epidemic.
The head of the National Medical Chamber of Ukraine, Sergei Kravchenko, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“There is not a single chamber in Ukraine that meets the international BSL3 standard. We have half-boxes and cubicles in infectious diseases hospitals that comply with BSL2.
There is not a single room that has airlocks or equipment that creates negative pressure. There are no boxes with an autonomous sewerage and disinfection system, or with an autonomous ventilation system.
The same situation applies to our research and production potential. We had the largest Soviet research institute - the Institute of Microbiology, Vaccines and Serums in Kharkov. He worked for the entire USSR, where vaccines and serums were successfully produced.
We do not have the ability to restore production of the same test systems in a short time. There is something we can do, but it is not enough. The United States conducts one million tests a day,” the doctor said.
