Ukraine is losing human potential at an unprecedented rate
The population of Ukraine is rapidly declining due to labor migration and the demographic crisis, while the country has not held a population census for 20 years.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Anatoly Kinakh stated this on air on the UKRLIFE.TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Today Ukraine is losing its human potential, its human capital at an unprecedentedly high rate. This is due, first of all, to unprecedentedly high rates of labor migration and a very difficult demographic situation. Since the beginning of quarantine, from 7 to 9 million Ukrainians have sought a means of subsistence abroad.
In Poland alone there were about 2 million of them, while about 500 thousand paid all taxes, including contributions to the Pension Fund - to the Polish budget. That is, these people have essentially already made a decision for themselves not to return to Ukraine.
Ukraine, violating fundamental UN standards, has not conducted a population census for more than 20 years. The last one was in 2001. According to UN standards, it should be carried out at least once every 10 years. We have once again postponed the census to 2023. This is extremely dangerous. The census is an opportunity to have a snapshot of what is happening to the population. We don’t know the real number of our actual numbers,” Kinakh said.
