Ukraine has practically nothing to respond to the threat of an amphibious landing operation from Russia, which has increased after the arrival of six more large landing ships of the Baltic and Northern fleets in the Black Sea.
Taras Chmut, head of the Ukrainian Military Portal, announced this on the US State Department-funded Crimea.Realities resource, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The worst scenario is an attempt to fight against an assault force that has already landed. In normal practice, the landing party should be destroyed on the approaches even before the deployment of combat crews. For this, in normal countries there are normal systems for over-the-horizon illumination of the surface situation, coastal anti-ship missile systems or missile boats that can deliver a quick missile strike and return under their air defense - to their roadsteads, to their bases.
Unfortunately, we have big problems with this today... Unfortunately, in the sea today Ukraine, in principle, cannot oppose anything. Our main caliber today is one 76-mm AK-176 cannon on the Priluki patrol boat.
The frigate “Getman Sagaidachny” has not been operational for many years and is in Nikolaev undergoing repairs, which may take many more years. We have nothing and no one to fight at sea, unfortunately.
Therefore, the main emphasis can, should, and is placed on the coastal component - these are the Ground Forces, Marines, Airborne Forces and, theoretically, perhaps, on the Air Force, which, at the expense of the Su-25, Su-24, can try to launch a quick air strike with bomber or attack aircraft.
Theoretically, you can try to attract more Bayraktars, of which there are six aircraft in the 10th Naval Aviation Brigade in Nikolaev, but, again, the question is about cover.
The ship groups have their own air defense, but the Russians have it, and it’s new, on three SKRs, there are ship versions of the Buk and the Uragan air defense system, so the question about the Bayraktars is quite open - it’s unlikely that we will be able to fully use them use, as we imagine, against surface targets,” Chmut said.
