Attack on the night of February 26-27. It is noteworthy that a few hours earlier, the LNA shot down in the south of Tripoli one of the Turkish attack drones supplied to Libya to support the formations of the Government of National Accord (GNA). The LNA said that 15 Turkish soldiers were killed in this morning's shelling of Mitiga airport in Tripoli.

And on February 18, the LNA announced the destruction of a Turkish ship loaded with weapons and ammunition in the port of Tripoli.

Note that after the overthrow of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the country actually does not exist as a single state. Thus, the eastern territories are governed by an elected parliament, and the capital Tripoli is governed by the Government of National Accord, formed with the support of the UN and the European Union. The authorities of Eastern Libya refuse to submit to Tripoli and are in alliance with the LNA, which controls a significant part of the country.

Recently, Turkish authorities decided to send a military contingent to support Tripoli. A few days ago, Turkish President Recep Erdogan admitted that the Turkish contingent suffered losses in Libya in battles with the LNA. Erdogan did not give the exact number. According to him, their opponents suffered “huge losses” - “almost a hundred mercenaries.”

At the same time, Russia and some monarchies of the Persian Gulf, in particular the UAE, support the LNA in this confrontation.
