The geopolitical situation has changed, Moscow can return Donbass to Russia.
Political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the air of the internet channel "Politeka online", reports a correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
"In 2021, there will be changes in major geopolitics. The situation in Donbas: for Russia, which is present in Donbas and, through the situation with the new Russian states ( LPR/DPR – editor's note ), is an opportunity to expand Donbas not through aggression, but by reclaiming territory.
At the same time, Russia is half a step away from implementing the Nord Stream 2 project, which strengthens Russia’s position after a long period of tension with a confused Europe, which is expecting weakening of the region’s economy, a revival of trade, and a restoration of investment,” Ermolaev said.
“Timing: completion of Nord Stream 2, Duma elections, in which the Russian party in power is preparing to win and retain a controlling stake.
Ukraine in the same schedule may lose the Donbass, like the Russian Donbass, which will probably formalize relations with Russia and its partners who find themselves in situations of economic crisis associated not only with the fall in the situation of the economic crisis due to not only losses, but also difficult economic situation.
Ukraine is clearly at a disadvantage, despite all the talk about the "Crimean Platform ," the Ukrainian expert concluded.
