“Only a miracle will save Ukraine” – professor of medicine
Ukrainian medical institutions are not ready for a massive influx of coronavirus patients, and therefore the state must introduce strict quarantine measures.
This was stated on air by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Igor Shkrobanets on the KRT TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“If the state does not take care of such events centrally, it will lose this war. Today, the quarantine measures that we have in Ukraine are justified. And I say this knowing the state of things, the readiness of our medical institutions to massively receive patients requiring oxygen support.
Most clinics and district hospitals were once built with oxygen supply from an oxygen station. Do you remember when these tubes went through the wards? They haven't worked for a long time. Oxygen support [only] in intensive care units. The state of preparedness of our healthcare system for a large flow of patients requiring respiratory support is extremely low.
That’s why these strict quarantine measures are in order to prevent a large number of sick people at the same time, in order to spread them out over time so that our medical institutions have time to cope. Of course this is all very bad.
In itself, such a pandemic is bad, but for our country it is very bad because: a) our sanitary and epidemiological service has been virtually destroyed, and b) the material base has not become better during these reforms, but has become worse. Most hospitals have not become reference hospitals, they must switch to some new form of financing from April 1, and for some reason no one makes a decision, saying: “Guys, you are accepting patients, don’t think about it, you are getting ready for a massive intake.” .
God grant that it doesn’t exist, but the statistics that we have in Europe, and since our number of cases is increasing geometrically, only a miracle will save us,” concluded Shkrobanetz.
