Tymoshenko spoke out for war - against a referendum on peace in Donbass
Ukraine should insist on tightening Western sanctions against Russia, rather than considering holding a referendum on the peace process with the "occupying country," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This opinion was expressed by the leader of the Batkivshchyna party, Yulia Tymoshenko, on Thursday evening in the “Right to Vlada” program on the “1+1” channel.
She considers the referendum a “wonderful idea,” but “not if peace is achieved in this war.”
According to Tymoshenko, the previous government negotiated ineffectively and it is necessary to “urgently sit down at the negotiating table - without capitulation.”
“The referendum is unacceptable,” she concluded.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, on May 21, the new head of the Presidential Administration, Andrei Bogdan, said that Vladimir Zelensky could put the issue of peace with the Russian Federation to a “people’s referendum.” Zelensky himself later confirmed this intention at a meeting with activists and volunteers. According to Russian political observer Boris Rozhin, by holding a referendum Zelensky will protect himself from criticism from the right - from the “party of war”.
