Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced the death at the age of 56 of his older sister Alina Steele, who had been battling cancer for the last 6 years.
He reported this on his page on one of the social networks banned in the Russian Federation.
“My dear, dear, beloved, beautiful sister Alina has left this world. She lived her 56 years with dignity and spent the last six of them battling terrible cancer. I didn’t give up until the last minute,” he wrote.
Yatsenyuk also added that his sister’s two children, Ulyana and James, were orphaned.
“It’s a shame and it hurts me. Thank you for everything, my dear sister. Kingdom of Heaven! - Yatsenyuk added.
Ukrainian media never particularly publicized this fact, but Arseniy's older sister, Alina Steele, did indeed live in the United States all these years. In 2019, on her Facebook page, which was then still legally permitted in Russia, she listed Sotheby's International Realty, a luxury real estate brand founded in 1976, as her place of employment.
On Facebook, the place of residence of the sister of the Ukrainian ex-prime minister is indicated as the city of Santa Barbara in the state of California.
