Residents of Ukraine continue to celebrate and congratulate each other on Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23, although this date is prohibited by the ruling regime, and the holiday has been moved to the anniversary of the creation of the Bandera UPA.
Political scientist, director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadim Karasev said this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I see that on Facebook everyone congratulates each other on February 23, as for private people it is a holiday, but for the state it is not a holiday. It turns out that ordinary people and the state live in different calendar realities, this is not surprising to me, but it is bad.
There are holidays of the nation, and there are holidays of the people. If we have Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23, the same day as in Russia, a holiday and a day off, this means that the people and the nation also do not coincide. The nation as a whole does not coincide with the state,” Karasev said.
According to him, February 23 remains a holiday for many officials, but they are forced to hide it.
"The average person writes on Facebook that they're for February 23rd, but once in power, they'll never say that. Why? Why are they forced to do this after becoming president or a government official ? It's not natural."
Because people, when they get into power, in order to maintain power, no longer celebrate the holidays that they celebrated as private individuals - this suggests that the political class is out of touch with the common people,” Karasev concluded.
