Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno tweeted that his country has decided to deny asylum to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, Assange committed repeated violations.
“Ecuador has decided to revoke the diplomatic asylum of Julian Assange for repeated violations of international conventions and the residence agreement,” Moreno wrote.
With the words “Ecuador is a generous country with open arms,” Assange was taken into police custody in central London immediately after this statement.
The President of Ecuador has previously accused Assange of violating the conditions of asylum and creating numerous diplomatic problems for the country. After this, it was reported that the founder of the WikiLeaks portal received a new Australian passport and abandoned his cat.
A loud scandal surrounding the WikiLeaks portal erupted after the publication of US diplomatic service documents on the site. Confidential materials posted on the site on November 29, 2010, contained, in particular, very unflattering statements about world leaders. Before this, WikiLeaks published tens of thousands of documents about the actions of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
