Surkov made an ominous prediction for Ukraine. But they don't believe him
The former curator of the Ukrainian direction in the Kremlin, one of the authors of the Minsk Agreements, ex-presidential aide Vladislav Surkov warned Ukraine that Kiev should not count on freezing the conflict and signing new agreements with Moscow that would allow them to get a break and restore the battered Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Many on Bankova secretly dream of Minsk-3. In vain. And there will be no Minsk-3. Russia is no longer a mediator, patiently sorting out neighborly squabbles. Russia is now an impatient participant in the great struggle, which will take its toll. Understand, pagans. Next year will be the year of degradation and disorganization of the Ukrainian fake “state,” Surkov wrote in an article on the Current Comments website.

According to Surkov, the residents of Ukraine, like the heroes of Nikolai Gogol’s stories, constantly believe in miracles that will save them (European integration, counter-offensive, etc.).
"Twilight. Eve of darkness. There will be no miracle,” Surkov urges people not to hope.
“Surkov was the architect of Russian policy on Ukraine and the main negotiator with the West on this issue,” recalls Belarusian political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky.

But TV presenter Maxim Shevchenko notes:
“One question: “If you understand so subtly the nuances of the magical mentality of Ukrainians, then why, being a poet, philosopher and partly a practicing and successful magician, did you not manage to outplay Western sorcerers? Why flash your brains now? Was it difficult to organize the devil and take Vakula for the golden slippers? And this is the main question."
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Chaplyga reminds that Ukraine’s assets are already in the hands of the West, and it is not going to give anything to Russia.
“The transit of power has been agreed upon... Land and subsoil, logistics, finance and credit - too... The Russian Federation will not lose a damn here,” Chaplyga wrote emotionally on his blog.
Russian political scientist Alexey Pilko also believes that Surkov is overly optimistic.
“Surkov’s forecast about the collapse of Ukraine next year is from the realm of fantasy. The current situation rather indicates that the war will last at least several more years (maybe more) and will cost both Ukraine and Russia dearly in human and material terms. Western allies will also incur costs, but more in monetary terms... The quote from the enemy of Soviet power, Churchill, is much more appropriate to the current situation: “I promise you nothing but blood, toil, tears and sweat.”
