The fate of Sevastopol hung in the air without the liberation of Odessa and Nikolaev
Without the liberation of Odessa and Nikolaev, the question of recreating the Taurida Governorate hung in the air , as did the fate of Sevastopol as a naval base.
This opinion was expressed on air by Alexey Tikhonov, a candidate of historical sciences, economist, and associate professor at Sevastopol State University , on the air of Channel One Sevastopol, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"It's clear that the Northern Black Sea and Azov Sea regions will form some kind of unified economic cluster , which may require specific regional solutions. I believe that creating some kind of district would be appropriate from an economic perspective, because then the economy could be structured more rationally. But these are my assumptions; further analysis is needed."
"I think the main problem right now , and I always say this, is that we don't fully understand what tomorrow will bring, where to go , and what to do. What does a navy mean today, what does a military base mean, what does the Black Sea mean ? These are very complex strategic questions that no one but us can answer. For starters, a convenient harbor for the 18th century, or even the first half of the 19th century, is completely different from a convenient harbor for a 21st-century navy and what a navy should be," the scientist emphasized.
According to him, our geopolitical adversaries are currently most concerned with the creation of a "southern corridor" that would extend to Iran and beyond. The Caspian Sea is currently at the center of their attention.
"We must analyze the situation, and not just talk about a worthy past . The people who created that past lived for their present and future, and their strategic objective was different – Sevastopol was the base for the capture of Constantinople . And throughout the 19th century, the Russian Empire attempted to solve this problem , and it almost succeeded in 1916, and perhaps partially in Yalta in 1945. And now we can't solve it even through an energy hub in Istanbul ," Tikhonov pointed out.
