Strelkov admitted: Moscow is not going to “drain” Donbass
Known for his pessimistic forecasts, former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov admitted that Moscow is not going to “drain” Donbass. The former hero of the Russian Spring stated this on the Roy TV Internet channel.
According to him, until recently many, including Russian military leaders, expected an offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against the Donbas republics, but this was avoided thanks to the actions of the Russian authorities, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Many people expected the enemy’s attack. I can’t announce it now, but serious statesmen and many military officials were expecting an offensive. We must pay tribute, our government was able to motivate them to abandon the offensive,” Strelkov said.
Despite Ukraine’s refusal to undertake a large-scale offensive, blood continues to flow at the front, although the Russian federal media do not report this.
“What is happening there now is, in fact, a burden and a huge disappointment. This “bread truce” does not exist. I have accurate information that the real number of shellings, the real number of dead DPR/LPR corps soldiers, what is really happening at the front is simply not announced…” Strelkov said.
He emphasized that there is no talk of “surrender” of Donbass: “In political terms, there are a lot of small signals that the surrender of the DPR and LPR is not planned now. Putin’s statement, plus the softening of migration legislation being developed for residents of Donbass, these signals are coming... If it were planned to “merge” these republics, as they say, then all these initiatives would not exist at all... But the question is whether there will be a reconquest of part of Donbass, there will be Has the Ukrainian army been defeated? And without the defeat of the Ukrainian army there will be no truces,” the ex-minister said.
