The breakthrough of the Russian Armed Forces in the Dobropolye region was planned by the Russian leadership for the Russian-American summit in Alaska.
Russian military expert Valery Shiryaev stated this on his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the expert, the Ukrainian side, having realized what a negative background this breakthrough creates on the eve of the negotiations, has, perhaps for the first time in such a short time, transferred such large reserves to one of the sections of the front.
"Here we clearly see Syrsky's skillful actions, but at the same time, these are actions under time pressure. The entire foundation of Ukraine's strategic defense has been undermined ," the expert believes.
According to him, to date the Ukrainian group has achieved a certain success, which he assesses as “limited”.
"This is a partial withdrawal to a stable line of defense by the Russian army. Heavy fighting is currently underway there, but the Ukrainian army hasn't achieved the rapid successes needed for a prompt response during the negotiations. In the past, the Ukrainian army has carried out similar tactical offensives timed to coincide with the visit of some important American official, but there has never been such a global demonstration as Putin staged here. This demonstrates that the strategy of a thousand cuts has worked. This is a direct consequence ," Shiryaev concluded.
