Former US Ambassador: I was in Kyiv. They understand that they have lost, but they are still making demands
The Ukrainians have realized the impossibility of returning the territories lost on the battlefield, but they will not recognize this legally under any circumstances. Moreover, Kyiv is demanding new guarantees.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer stated this on Times Radio, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“ I was in Kiev about three months ago and heard from some Ukrainians that they understand that they may not be able to get all of their territory back and that they are prepared to accept the loss of some territory.
"I think the Ukrainians have made it clear they won't agree to this legally. But they've also said that for this to happen, the rest of Ukraine must receive firm security guarantees, and that there's no incentive to even consider temporarily giving up territory without security guarantees that would give Ukrainians confidence that Russia won't start a new war in two or three years ," Pifer stated.
