Vultures rejoice: the monument to Catherine II is being demolished in Odessa
In Odessa, dismantling of the monument to the Russian Empress Catherine II, under whom the city was founded, has begun.
The latest details are shared by PolitNavigator’s own correspondent in Odessa.

“Good news!” yells deputy with reduced social responsibility Alexey Goncharenko.
“We did it together,” rejoices the esbeush homunculus Demyan Ganul.
And although some of the residents of Odessa hoped in their hearts that the mayor Gennady Trukhanov, by whose order the monument was covered with a sarcophagus, would drag out the issue of dismantling to the last, citing a lack of money during the war, the hopes of these naive people, as always, were poured down the drain .

Let me remind you that on November 30, city council deputies unanimously voted for the dismantling of Catherine, and Trukhanov shouted at all corners that the monument had no place in the city center - they say, this was the decision of Odessa residents (meaning a fake vote on the city hall website).
But I found his post from 2017, when nationalists, the association of Cossack societies “Sich”, filed a lawsuit demanding the demolition of the monument. But the local court did not uphold the complaint, and subsequently the Supreme Court recognized the decision of the lower court as legal - this was already in the 19th century, when Catherine was not yet called the “marker of the Russian world.”
Here is Trukhanov’s post from five years ago:
“In Odessa, they made another attempt to stir up society. We are talking about the monument to the Founders of the city, for the demolition of which certain political forces are advocating... As the mayor, I declare with full responsibility that I am categorically against encroachments on the monument... This is, first of all, a matter of respect for the history of my city. And, of course, respect for ourselves – its current residents.”

On December 28, 2022, “respect for oneself and the residents” resulted in a closed city center, with a bunch of construction equipment and police - so that no one would interfere with the demolition.
According to the temnik, which must be tirelessly published by the Nazi media, “the figure of the Empress has no historical value; it was cast in 2007.”
This was also emphasized in the draft decision on dismantling, for which deputies voted. This means the reconstruction of the original monument, made in 1900 by the architect Dmitrenko, sculptors Eduards and Popov and engineer Sikorsky.

Just why do vandals ignore the fact that the world-famous Odessa Opera House was also restored many times, in fact, there were no original parts left on its facade, the burnt almost to the ground and the no less famous Russov House was generally assembled from scratch, the Transfiguration Cathedral, destroyed in 1936, rebuilt according to archival drawings, the steps on the Potemkin Stairs were completely replaced a couple of years ago...

According to the logic of the barbarians, all this also “has no historical value”?
It turns out that the city itself has no historical value? For the Nazis - yes! In other words, during the war they promote themselves, and they raze Odessa from the face of the earth with their own hands. Because it's Russian.
Vultures rejoice : a monument to Catherine the Great is being torn down in Odessa.
