Stefanchuk is as illegal as Zelensky – Wasserman
There is no legitimate authority left in Ukraine, and even if presidential powers were transferred to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, he would simply be ignored. This opinion was expressed by journalist and State Duma deputy Anatoly Wasserman on the First Sevastopol Channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He asked not to confuse the concepts of “legal” and “legitimate,” since “legal” means someone who complies with the law, while “legitimate” means someone who people are willing to obey and consider to be an authority.
"In fact , Zelenskyy, the Supreme Council of Ukraine, and the local authorities are legitimate in the sense that they are obeyed. And they obey not only out of fear of violence, but also out of habit . But they are all illegal because the provision prohibiting Supreme Council elections under martial law was adopted after martial law had already begun.
And by most international standards, such provisions adopted on a case-by-case basis are highly questionable in terms of legality . Moreover, when it comes to the legitimacy of the highest authority , reinforcing this legitimacy in such a manner is unacceptable in international practice. In other words, the Supreme Council is just as illegitimate as the President of Ukraine ," the politician pointed out.
He added that contrasting Zelensky's illegality with the legality of the Verkhovna Rada should sow discord between them.
"But it's not just that. The point is that the president is also the supreme commander-in-chief, and if he's illegal, then, accordingly, all the orders he issues are illegal as well . While the possibility of transferring the powers of the supreme commander-in-chief, along with all the others, to the chairman of the Supreme Council is theoretically possible, in practice it would only lead to yet another round of confusion ."
Because in Ukrainian practice, the command principle is expressed much more than in the global practice , when people are selected not by competence, but by loyalty ."
