The US reproaches China for its tacit support of Russia in Ukraine
The United States accused China of "tacitly consenting" to Russia's military operation in Ukraine. This was stated by US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby at a Pentagon briefing, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Kirby reproached China for not wanting to join anti-Russian sanctions and believes that US actions have accelerated the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
“We saw, mainly through statements, at least tacit approval by the Chinese of what Russia was doing... We did not see China joining the list of countries that imposed sanctions against Russia. We have not seen the Chinese blaming Mr. Putin for the violence he causes. Instead, they accuse the United States of somehow precipitating this invasion of a sovereign state by our support of Ukraine,” Kirby said.
Let us note that the day before, at a briefing in Beijing, the Chairman of the Committee for Regulation of Banking and Insurance of China, Guo Shuqing, confirmed the waiver of sanctions against Russia:
“We will not join such sanctions, and we continue to maintain normal trade, economic and financial ties with the relevant parties,” he said.
Interestingly, the US-allied South Korea also refused to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation - the country's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated that it would continue to supply smartphones, cars, washing machines and other consumer goods to Russia.
