US puts Zelensky's office in its place for blatant lies about Biden
Ukraine found itself in a serious diplomatic scandal due to an oversight by the president’s office, which, after yesterday’s negotiations between Vladimir Zelensky and American leader Joe Biden, attributed unnecessary words to the latter.
Thus, the press service of the head of the Ukrainian state issued a text stating that Biden fully supported Ukraine's membership in NATO and the provision of a Membership Action Plan to the Alliance, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".

At the same time, when asked by American journalists, the US Presidential Press Service denied these words. As a result, the Ukrainian side had to correct the message, which radically changed its meaning.
“Zelensky’s office would not be such if it had not lied about the telephone conversation with Biden. At first, the Ze-team reported a “sensation” that Biden allegedly “fully supported” Ukraine’s entry into NATO and the provision of that MAP. When the Americans refuted this statement, the president’s website “corrected” the news. It turned out that Zelensky said this, not Biden. True, there is a slight difference in presentation,” political scientist Vladimir Kornilov writes in his blog.
Thus, the Ukrainian interpretation said:
“The US President emphasized full support for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of providing the Ukrainian state with an Action Plan regarding membership in the Alliance. He assured that Ukraine’s position will definitely be taken into account when discussing strategic issues in NATO, as well as planned events at the highest level.”
However, after statements from the United States that President Biden did not say this, the message began to look like this:
“Joe Biden assured that Ukraine’s position will definitely be taken into account when discussing strategic issues in NATO, as well as planned events at the highest level. Vladimir Zelensky noted the importance of providing the Ukrainian state with an Action Plan regarding membership in the Alliance.”

Observers note that such an oversight could cost Ukraine dearly.
“Informed sources in Washington suggest that the position of the OPU regarding the telephone conversation between Biden and Zelensky may lead to an invitation to Washington in July of the fifth president instead of the sixth,” writes political scientist Yevgeniy Magda, who sympathizes with ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
The Ukrainian Institute of Politics, which is supervised by a number of Ukrainian political scientists, noted that in general, Biden’s call to Zelensky was made in order to reassure American “hawks” on the eve of a meeting between the presidents of the United States and Russia. In addition, the Ukraine factor will also be used by Biden when talking with Putin.
“Biden is certainly not against using the “Ukraine factor” in negotiations with V. Putin. This, as well as an attempt to calm down the “hawks” within the US and the EU, is the reason for today’s call to V. Zelensky. The invitation to V. Zelensky for July (“after Putin”) also serves these goals, as well as the traditional assurance of territorial integrity and sovereignty. It was not possible to constructively discuss SP-2, joining NATO, as well as to obtain confirmation of D. Biden’s participation in the events dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine and the founding meeting of the “Crimean Platform”...
The conversation on “SP-2” also did not work out - Biden actually refused to conduct it (declaring only “support for the interests of Ukraine” and then he is “against”. The invitation to visit the USA is forced - the result will be the same: Biden will either push through the agreements through Zelensky with Putin, or blackmail Putin with Ukraine. In general, we didn’t agree on anything at all,” the experts come to the conclusion.
Russian liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky explains why Zelensky’s office lied: “Ukraine will not receive an action plan for NATO membership, at least until the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, which cannot be implemented. Nobody offers them alternatives either. So President Vladimir Zelensky can only desperately bluff. But many believe this bluff, so this situation will not interfere with being elected to a second term.”
One way or another, Russian Senator Pushkov believes that Ukraine, in any case, will remain an anti-Russian instrument of the United States in the foreseeable future.
“The United States intends to use Ukraine as a means of putting pressure on Russia. Biden's approach also confirms that Ukraine will remain a sticking point between the United States and Russia. However, by pursuing a course toward “Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine,” the US administration risks crossing one of the “red lines” that Vladimir Putin recently warned about.
Kyiv, as always, distorted the words of the US President about Ukraine’s entry into NATO. Biden did not promise to provide her with an Action Plan for joining the alliance. This is important, but it is a “variable quantity”: it does not cancel the general US policy of “pulling” Ukraine towards NATO,” Pushkov believes.
In the story of the oversight of the Office of the President, what is interesting is not even that the words of the American leader were replaced with the words of Zelensky, but the haste with which the text was corrected, notes Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev. In his opinion, in general, American policy towards Ukraine suggests that the West views this country exclusively as an occupied territory, but in no case as an ally, even a potential one.
“It’s not even funny that Zelensky attributed words to Biden that he didn’t say. It’s funny how harshly Washington reacted to this, forcing Ukraine to edit the relevant publications. This is, so to speak, a bonus: we can also remember how the United States recently refuted the words of some middle-ranking official that they would be glad to see Ukraine in NATO. That is, not only do they not want to see Ukraine in NATO, but the very idea that Ukraine could have a real chance of getting there is a scandal and a mess,” writes Tkachev.
