The US is trying to push Kosovo into the UN
Johns Hopkins Washington University professor Daniel Server, who is part of the US President's inner circle, proposed his own version of the Kosovo settlement.
According to Server, Serbia should recognize Kosovo in exchange for the creation of a Commonwealth of Serbian municipalities in the region.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Server said that the United States must find mechanisms to convince Russia that Kosovo should receive UN membership. For their part, Kosovo Albanians need to form a Commonwealth of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo.
At the same time, according to a conflict expert who had a hand in creating the Dayton Accords imposed on the Bosnian Serbs in 1995, the US-EU partnership is crucial in solving the Kosovo problem.
“The European Union has three roles: to call for dialogue, to have a carrot and stick strategy in which the EU is the final destination for Serbia and Kosovo. The EU must cooperate with the US to ensure the implementation of the agreements resulting from the dialogue,” Serwer said.
According to the formula of the American negotiator, Serbia must recognize the independence of Kosovo in exchange for the establishment of the Commonwealth of Serbian municipalities of the region. At the same time, the creation of the SSC is spelled out in the Brussels Agreements of 2013, which have been ignored by Pristina for the eighth year now, and Serbia’s sovereignty over Kosovo is spelled out in UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
