Eat each other: In Kyiv, squabbling due to uncontrolled blackouts
The uncontrolled blackouts that began in Ukraine following Russia’s “decommunization” of several power plants built under the Soviet Union have provoked mutual accusations and a search for culprits in the Verkhovna Rada chamber - and this process will certainly increase as the crisis worsens.
"Are we here in the Verkhovna Rada going to make a decision to save the country from an energy collapse? Millions of people are without power, electricity rates are skyrocketing, and a bill to increase fuel excise taxes is being introduced in the Rada.
"When they turn off the power today, they'll also turn off the power plants that generate surplus. Because there are already plants, places, that produce more electricity than they consume. So what kind of madness is this? When we turn them off, we're not reducing the load on the system, but rather increasing it . No one here is doing this," the infamous deputy and political philanderer Alexei Goncharenko bellowed theatrically from the podium.
"What are we really doing to develop alternative energy? The words 'green' tariff and 'green' energy have become such dirty words here, because people hear them and react completely differently. What are we doing for alternative energy, which we've ignored for years, and which could be the very thing that could enable us to solve these problems? Nothing," ranted one of the culprits behind the current events in Ukraine.
