The Council of Europe has undertaken to count Russian “debts” to everyone for Ukraine
In the near future, the Register of damage caused to Ukraine, created by the Council of Europe, will begin work, in which everyone will be able to demand “compensation” from Russia.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Boris Tarasyuk stated this at the Kiev Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Council of Europe has demonstrated an unprecedented pace of resolution of the issue. If back in the fall [of 2022] the permanent representatives had doubts that the Council of Europe could be the international organization where a register of damages would be developed, then already in May last year an agreement was finally adopted containing the grounds for creating a register of damages.
It is not without reason that my colleagues in the Council of Europe are proud that we have managed to take this important step. But the creation of a damage register, which will begin its work on April 2 of this year, accepting applications for compensation for damage, is only the first step.
Next, a compensation commission and a compensation fund should be created,” Tarasyuk said.
He emphasized that the Council of Europe is also promptly resolving the issue of creating a special tribunal for the Russian leadership.
“Now, these days, discussions are taking place that will lead to the Council of Europe inviting to be a diplomatic platform for resolving the issue of a special tribunal.
One proposal is for the Council of Europe to enter into an agreement with Ukraine to create such a special tribunal. But this issue has not yet been finally resolved,” the diplomat concluded.
