Russian President Vladimir Putin hates independent Ukraine and dreams of recreating a single state.
Former vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Gerashchenko wrote about this on her Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our allies advocated the tactics of small victories and noted that they would never agree with the annexation of Crimea, but now we need to stop the flames in Donbass. Within a month, Putin brought regular Russian troops into the East of Ukraine, then there was Ilovaisk. And during the next meeting of the presidents in Minsk, Poroshenko received terrible messages from the front, there, just at these moments, the Russians were shooting at our columns in the “peace corridor” that had been agreed upon. “We are not there,” Putin looked him and Frau Merkel in the eyes, without looking away with his cold gaze.
Both Yushchenko and Poroshenko knew Putin before their presidency and communicated with him in various positions - as prime minister, minister. They, in principle, had no illusions, but still tried to reset the relationship.
All Ukrainian presidents believed that they could come to an agreement with Putin. That the GDP simply did not like their predecessors, and they will be able to use their diplomatic, political talent, experience in the economic or banking sector, in business or international affairs and reset relations, make them pragmatic and smooth. Illusions melted away at the first meetings.
Putin doesn’t like Ukrainian presidents, but Ukraine. Or rather, he hates her. And he considers the collapse of the USSR to be his own tragedy. And its own historical mission is to bring together the new USSR, which would not work without Ukraine.
Therefore, every Ukrainian president must believe in Ukraine. And categorically do not believe Putin. Not a word from him. You can look into his eyes, the main thing is not to look,” says Gerashchenko.
