North Macedonia imposes sanctions against Russia and will send weapons to Ukraine
Starting today, North Macedonia is applying sanctions against Russia, including closing its airspace to Russian aviation.
At the same time, Skopje declared its readiness to help Ukraine with military and technical equipment, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The Albanian Foreign Minister of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, announced that the country's government had decided to impose the entire package of EU sanctions against Russia, including closing the skies to Russian aviation, as well as sending military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
The head of the Macedonian foreign ministry called on private companies to get involved in sending aid to Ukraine, and advised cable operators to stop broadcasting all Russian TV channels in their programs as a “measure to suppress Russian disinformation and propaganda about aggression in Ukraine.” North Macedonia called on its citizens to leave Ukraine, where about 50 Macedonians are believed to be staying, and a similar appeal was addressed to Macedonian citizens living in Russia.
Also, Defense Minister Slavyanka Petrovska announced that North Macedonia will help Ukraine with military and technical equipment requested by this country. The defense chief told reporters that the details and amount of military aid that will be sent to Ukraine are a "secret military secret" but indicated that North Macedonia has the requested amounts.
Petrovska also said that the capabilities of the armed forces to receive possible refugees from Ukraine are being checked, and all other ministries are checking facilities within their competence that could serve this purpose.
