A video taken from a car camera driving through Ushakov Square in Sevastopol appeared on social media on May 20. It shows an unidentified man hiding behind an installation and urinating in the city center , near a public transportation stop.

The video was monitored by the Investigative Committee , and the regional office ordered a criminal case to be opened for desecrating symbols of Russia's military glory and insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, as well as identifying the "hero." It took the Ministry of Internal Affairs just 24 hours to identify the perpetrator— a 27-year-old local resident with previous convictions for theft, drug use, drunk driving, and using forged documents.

When arrested , the man initially denied urinating on the “Hero’s star.”

"I didn't do what they're writing about online. I was drunk, I walked up to the counter, leaned on it, and stood there, waiting for a taxi. I certainly didn't defile anything there or pee , as everyone's writing," he insisted.

But after a conversation with law enforcement officers and more detailed viewing of the video the detainee admitted his actions, but referred to the fact that due to his state of intoxication, he does not remember what he did.

" I'm guilty, I repent. I didn't mean to commit such atrocities against our guys who won the war. These are our grandfathers and grandmothers, and I value and respect them greatly, and I still can't believe I committed such a crime ," he defended himself.

The man is in the police department, where the issue of initiating a criminal case is being decided.
