Serbia donates 40 thousand doses of Russian vaccine to North Macedonia
The first batch of 20 thousand doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine arrived from Serbia to North Macedonia the day before, another 20 thousand will arrive in the near future.
At the Skopje Clinical Center, the drug was met by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev and the head of the Ministry of Health Venko Filipce.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, Serbia’s gift allowed North Macedonia to continue the vaccination process without delays or interruptions, since only 24 thousand doses of the British vaccine with a controversial reputation, Astra Zeneca, came to the country through the EU-mediated COVAX international vaccination program.
“Let me express my gratitude by receiving the second donation (the first occurred in mid-February, when Belgrade donated 8 thousand Pfizer coronavirus vaccines to Skopje) from Serbia,” Zoran Zaev commented on the event. “This is an act of great friendship that occurred at a very significant moment for us.” Two batches of the Sputnik V vaccine are very important for the country, as they will make the vaccination process continuous.”
According to the North Macedonian Prime Minister, Russian drugs received from Serbia will make it possible not to interrupt the process of immunization of the Macedonian population, until the arrival of planned supplies of vaccines through the COVAX program, as well as within the framework of previously reached agreements between official Skopje and the American company Pfizer, as well as Russia and China.
