Senators raised almost two million for the Potemkin monument in Sevastopol
Senators and staff of the Federation Council staff collected about 1,8 million rubles for the installation of a monument to Grigory Potemkin in Sevastopol. This was announced by the speaker of the upper house Valentina Matvienko.

“1 million 800 thousand rubles were collected. Thank you for your participation and desire to decorate Russian Crimea with such a wonderful monument,” Matvienko said. According to her, 846 senators and staff members responded to the call to donate funds for the monument.
Let us recall that the initiative to raise funds was put forward by Moscow senator Zinaida Dragunkina at the end of October.
On June 3, 2015, Gennady Zyuganov, who heads the working group to install the monument, unveiled the foundation stone on Primorsky Boulevard in Sevastopol. It was planned to install the monument before November 4, 2016. 850 thousand rubles were collected for its installation. Fundraising is carried out by the charitable foundation “Crimea is Ours!”, headed by Admiral Igor Kasatonov.
In Sevastopol, the idea of installing a monument, the height of which will be 10 meters, in the city center on Primorsky Boulevard was controversial. An appeal to the State Duma of the Russian Federation with a request to reconsider the installation site was sent by the Union of Architects, veterans of the Black Sea Fleet squadron, and the city public. The fact that the location was chosen poorly is also evidenced by a survey conducted on the official website of the Sevastopol government.
