Budapest not only blackmails Kiev by blocking Ukraine from NATO, but also interferes in the internal politics of the “independent” country with the help of its communities.
Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko, who serves the interests of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this on Channel 4, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The Hungarians won't lift the block on Ukraine-NATO meetings because they're using it as a means of blackmailing Ukraine. But we won't give in to blackmail because we have our own principled position!
As I heard from our senior leaders: “We have already adapted to this, so cooperation with NATO continues.” Of course, there are elements of blocking, but they are not catastrophic or critical,” he asserts.
The political scientist was also outraged that Hungary is trying to influence Ukraine, Romania and Slovakia through Hungarian communities.
"Politics is the art of balancing interests. The point isn't to block Hungary's influence, but to ensure it doesn't conflict with our national interests . Because if you let them take advantage of you, tomorrow they'll push us around and demand more and more."
Hungary is a small country, but it is part of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, and through their communities they are trying to influence not only Ukraine, but Slovakia and Romania,” Fesenko added.
In addition, Ze-expert accused Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban of “flirting” with Putin.
“Hungary is moving toward confrontation in relations with Brussels. Now there is an attempt on the part of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to create a special political grouping in the European Parliament with representatives of right-wing radical forces.
Viktor Orban is flirting with Vladimir Putin, this is also a problem. Therefore, we must negotiate, reach normal relations, but not at the expense of our national interests,” Fesenko worries.
As a reminder, Kyiv previously announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to amend the law "on indigenous peoples," but is unable to reach an agreement with the Hungarians.
