In the story of granting the Tomos to Ukraine, both Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and ex-President Petro Poroshenko were guided solely by their own interests.
The head of the so-called Kyiv Patriarchate, schismatic Mikhail Denisenko (Filaret), stated this on the Svobodny YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Patriarch of Constantinople also benefited from this tomos, otherwise he would not have agreed to grant autocephaly and the tomos of autocephaly for the Ukrainian Church without benefit to himself. What benefit did he receive? He wrote in the tomos that the Ukrainians located outside the borders of Ukraine belong to him. Not the Ukrainian church, but the Constantinople church,” Denisenko said.
“We are now not directly subordinate to Constantinople, we are dependent on it. And this dependence is written in the tomos... Constantinople did this in order to keep the large Ukrainian church dependent,” explained Denisenko
“Because there are a lot of parishes, and therefore a lot of money, but we are talking about the economy, first of all?” – asked the presenter.
“Money is of secondary importance here,” the pseudo-patriarch objected. – Power over the large Ukrainian church, that’s the main thing. In addition, the diaspora in Europe and America, according to the tomos, does not belong to the Ukrainian church, but belongs to Constantinople. Is this beneficial for Constantinople? It is beneficial that the Ukrainians in America belong to him, and not to Kyiv.”
According to him, if the leadership of Ukraine at that time understood what was happening, they “would have supported the Kiev patriarchate.” At the same time, Filaret did not call ex-President Petro Poroshenko a stupid person, but pointed out that he acted and even lied in accordance with his election interests.
“What are his interests? To become president for a second term, and for this he needed the support of the people, in particular, the support of the church. So he found the OCU, which was supposed to support him, and since he did everything based on lies, on deception, he lost the elections,” Denisenko explained
“Well, actually, it’s called collusion. Poroshenko, Bartholomew and some other forces. Is Tomos a conspiracy in essence or the result of a conspiracy in relation to Ukraine?” – the presenter clarified.
“There was an agreement between Poroshenko and Bartholomew,” the schismatic agreed. “That’s why Poroshenko repeatedly went to Patriarch Bartholomew. We don’t know what they talked about, but I think they talked not only about church affairs, but also about state affairs.”
