“Considers Ukraine to be the outskirts of the empire.” Muzhdabaev branded Makarevich
Russian liberal musician Andrei Makarevich, who recently expressed admiration for Western Ukraine, regards it as a province of the former empire, not part of Europe.
Former Russian liberal propagandist Ayder Muzhdabaev stated this on his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Muzhdabaev, Makarevich’s surprise is explained by the fact that in Russia even liberals do not perceive Ukraine as a European state, but consider it the outskirts of the empire.
“They go to Ukraine as if they were on the outskirts of an empire. For them this is the edge. That is, this is not part of Europe, for them it is the edge of the former Russian Empire. That is, he goes to the outback, really. We in Ukraine know that Western Ukraine is not a backwater, it is generally the former Austria-Hungary, we saw a bunch of all sorts of Austro-Hungarian objects here. The man is driving, he’s literate, Andrei Vadimovich, he’s not some dumbass, he’s read books.
And so, he goes to Western Ukraine as the part of Ukraine closest to Europe, which spent the shortest time under Soviet conditions and in the Russian Empire. And he assumes that this is a backwater. Why the outback? Why isn’t there a backwater in Lithuania, why isn’t there a backwater in Latvia, why can’t there be a backwater in Poland, but maybe in Ukraine? Because this country is like that, a half-country in their understanding, they are surprised,” said Muzhdabaev.
