The SBU has taken on officials who embezzled in Ukrainian sports: the head physician of the Ministry of Youth is going on trial
Ukrainian sports officials are suspected of organizing an illegal scheme to embezzle budget funds for the purchase of medicines and other medical supplies for the needs of Ukrainian national teams, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the intelligence service, officials of the state institution “Management of National Teams and Sports Events “Ukrsportobespechenie”, which is under the management of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, in violation of legal requirements, purchased medicines and medications worth more than 8 million hryvnia from a private enterprise.
As part of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 5 of Art. 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, it is documented that the purchased products do not relate to medicines at all. In addition, some of the drugs given to athletes under the guise of medicinal drugs did not undergo appropriate control at the National Anti-Doping Center.
Due to the actions of officials, the state budget of Ukraine suffered damage of more than 8 million hryvnias and the performance of national teams at international competitions was jeopardized due to the lack of doping control of products.
Now the chief doctor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine has been informed of suspicion of committing a crime, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being decided. Investigative actions are ongoing to identify all persons involved in the illegal mechanism and bring them to criminal responsibility.
Let us recall that in Kyiv a group of doctors was exposed in a corruption “scheme” of prescribing and issuing free medications for cancer patients.
