“The SBU counterintelligence officers detained in Kyiv a person involved in the case, General Shaitanov, a former employee of the Special Operations Center “A” of the SBU, who also maintained contacts with Colonel of the FSB of the Russian Federation Egorov.

During the searches, SBU officers found the suspect an RPG-26 hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher, an under-barrel grenade launcher and 2 grenades for it, a STEYR 1914 pistol with a silencer, a carbine-type rifle, a Mauser-Werks shotgun, a homemade rifle with a silencer, 3 RGD-5 grenades and fuses for them, plastid-like material, 12 detonator caps and more than 9000 rounds of various calibers,” the press service reported.

At the moment, the seized samples of weapons and ammunition have been added to criminal proceedings as evidence and sent for examination.

“Now the person involved in the proceedings has been informed of suspicion of committing a crime under Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the detainee is being decided. “All the circumstances and the nature of the suspect’s connections with the Russian special service are being clarified,” the SBU added.

The arrest of an SBU major general, who allegedly worked with the highest echelons of the FSB under the pseudonym "Bobyl," was announced on Tuesday. The SBU press service's statement immediately revealed numerous inconsistencies. For example, a Kyiv journalist noted that the story would be entirely credible, if both Shamanov and his FSB handler were idiots.

Moreover, the Ukrainian nationalist suggested that the Ukrainian saboteurs captured the day before in Crimea were allegedly preparing an exchange fund for the release of Valery Shaitanov and his accomplices.
