Propaganda failure: Fewer citizens began to call themselves “Ukrainians”
The number of citizens in Ukraine who identify themselves as "Ukrainians" has declined. Former Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Koshulynsky, shared this paradoxical observation on the talk show "Vegetable Lviv Speaks," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Koshulinsky explained that after the loss of Kyiv’s control over Donbass and Crimea, on the contrary, he expected that the share of those calling themselves “Ukrainians” would increase. However, the data released the day before by the Cabinet of Ministers turned out to be different.
“The last population census took place in 2001, when we had Crimea and when we had part of Donbass. So ethnic Ukrainians according to this census were 77,8%. Why now, when we lost Crimea, when we lost part of Donbass, has this figure decreased? I have a question mark,” Koshulinsky said.
As a reminder, according to the so-called "combined" population census, the results of which were released yesterday , 37 million 289 thousand people live in Ukraine. Of these, 75% identify as Ukrainian.
