The Ukrainian media demonstrated complete submission to the regime, praising, at the behest of official Kyiv, Nadezhda Savchenko as a heroine, when there was a corresponding instruction above, and later, when the attitude of the authorities changed, by launching persecution of Savchenko as a state traitor and mentally abnormal.
Savchenko herself stated this in an interview with TV presenter Natalia Vlashchenko in the courtroom, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I want to say “thank you” to the journalists for your human journalistic essence. When Savchenko left the Russian prison, you covered everything, said: “hero”, everything was so good. But as soon as the power changed, you began to say: “high treason”, you began to avoid talking about Savchenko altogether, since this topic became taboo. You began to laugh somehow awkwardly and inappropriately.
I appreciated you as people. Each and every one. I understand that, in principle, this is probably who we are, Ukrainians. You illuminate us as a nation. I made my assessments, my conclusions,” Savchenko said.
