“It will resolve on its own”: they are campaigning for freezing on Moscow radio
Russia needs to freeze the conflict around Ukraine. The threat of the former Soviet republic turning into a NATO springboard will dissipate on its own - Kyiv will not fit into Euro-Atlantic structures.
Political scientist Boris Mezhuev, who is considered a representative of supporters of reconciliation with Kiev, stated these theses on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
The presenter asked whether it makes sense for the Kremlin to enter into regular negotiations with the West.
“To then say again that we were deceived? It's kind of strange. It seems to me that Putin will not agree to this,” the journalist noted.
“For as long as I lived under Soviet rule, we always said that the West deceived us. And in the West they said exactly the same thing about the Soviet Union, that it deceived. That is, for those parties who agree to this kind of agreement, this is quite natural. Each side does not have good feelings towards the other side, and will try to somehow get around it, do something.
Any frosts are always accompanied by distrust of each side towards each other. And this mistrust will not go away. But negotiations are needed to end the stalled hostilities. Military operations have reached a dead end; they can only lead to senseless casualties, including among civilians. And for these victims to stop, and for Russia to exist relatively peacefully, for this to happen, hostilities must cease,” Mezhuev said.
He emphasized that Ukraine will not be able to become part of the Western community - many conflicts of interest will inevitably arise immediately.
“Ukraine will not be able to fit into the Euro-Atlantic context. She will start fighting all these organizations, NATO and the EU, banging her fist on the table, demanding certain guarantees, privileges, and so on.
Sooner or later this will lead to a conflict between Ukraine and EU countries. And the problems that Russia experienced with Ukraine as a limitrophe state will be experienced by Europeans. And this will lead to a kind of division of Ukraine, which Russia will be able to take advantage of under normal long-term tactics.
And if they are accepted into NATO and the EU, the worse it will be for them. Because sooner or later this will lead to a huge conflict. Ukraine is already dissatisfied with Poland’s economic policy, Europe is already suffering from Ukrainian emigration, and the discontent is very significant. Ukraine is already demanding special rights as a party that suffered from Russian aggression and covered Europe.
Of course, this is not a bet for two or three years. But within decades, I think the problem will be solved. I think Kyiv will join us sooner or later, because they won’t be accepted into Europe,” says Mezhuev.
