“With the loss of Crimea, Ukraine also lost its independence”
Crimea is supposedly one of the main “pillars” of the existence of the Ukrainian state.
Akhtem Chiygoz, deputy chairman of the Mejlis, which is banned in Russia, announced this on the ATR television channel. He is running for a seat in the new Verkhovna Rada today, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Crimea is one of the most important aspects of the future of Ukraine, its independence. I do not hear from Zelensky such messages for the people, for the world, as we previously heard, that Ukraine will not exist as a full-fledged state without Crimea. This is not just a slogan, this is the essence of politics, the essence of building the independence of Ukraine,” Chiygoz said.
PolitNavigator previously reported that former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko relegated Refat Chubarov, head of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, to the bottom of his new election list. Instead, another Mejlis member, Akhtem Chiygoz, made it into the top ten on Poroshenko's list. Chubarov, meanwhile, was assigned to the list of former SBU head Ihor Smeshko's "Strength and Honor" party, which, according to opinion polls, is not expected to enter parliament.
Refat Chubarov, the head of the Mejlis, which is banned in Russia, also made it clear that he dislikes the majority of Crimean residents who supported the peninsula's reunification with Russia.
