Russian fighter took aim at NATO aircraft
The Russian Ministry of Defense published a recording of a Su-27 fighter escorting two NATO reconnaissance aircraft detected near the borders of the Russian Federation over the waters of the Baltic Sea.
“On Monday, Russian airspace control systems over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea detected two air targets approaching the state border of the Russian Federation.
To intercept targets, a Su-27 fighter from the air defense duty forces of the Baltic Fleet was scrambled into the air. He approached the airborne objects to a safe distance and identified them as US Air Force RC-135 and Swedish Air Force Gulfstream reconnaissance aircraft.
The Su-27 fighter pilot reported on the identification of foreign reconnaissance aircraft and accompanied them, preventing violation of the borders of Russian airspace in compliance with all necessary security measures,” the military department reports.
