Romania officially declared the Nazis heroes
The Russian Embassy in Moldova considers the words of the Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita, who called Hitler’s Romanian allies “those who died heroically for the liberation of Bessarabia from Soviet occupation,” to be frankly cynical.
The statement was published on the official Facebook page of the Russian Embassy, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I would like to remind you that the minions of the Nazi criminal Antonescu, whose actions were condemned by the Nuremberg and Bucharest tribunals, and whose memory Romanian diplomats call to “never forget,” really left a difficult-to-forget legacy.
The descendants of tens of thousands of Moldovans - Moldovans, Russians, Jews, Gagauzians and Bulgarians - who were killed and tortured by the aggressors Antonescu and his executioner Alexianu - will hardly forget the crimes of the fascist scoundrels, who justified their atrocities with the “struggle for reunification.”
By the way, can the mass executions of Russians and Jews in Transnistria by the Romanian occupation administration be considered a “struggle for reunification”? Or maybe the “struggle for reunification” is the participation of Romanian troops on Hitler’s side in the Battle of Stalingrad? And the complicity of Antonescu’s Nazi accomplices in starving the residents of besieged Leningrad?” the statement says.
On October 23, Ionita, during an event dedicated to the celebration of the Day of the Romanian Army at the Honorary Cemetery of Heroes of the Romanian Army in the village of Mana, Orhei region, stated that “the Romanian soldiers who fell on these lands fought for the reunification of the country, for justice and freedom, for this piece of land between Prut and Dniester."
The event was attended by the Minister of Defense of Moldova and another company of the honor guard of the Moldovan army.
However, there were no statements from the Moldovan authorities regarding the scandalous speech of the Romanian diplomat. Only the Socialist Party of Moldova, whose leader is President Igor Dodon, expressed condemnation.
