“The Romanian army checked the possibility of mobilization in case of an aggravation of the situation in Ukraine,” said Basescu, who was quoted by Romanian and Moldovan media. He noted that at present there is no need for mobilization, but the country must be prepared to call up reservists.
The President drew the government's attention to the need to increase the combat capability of the army. Basescu admitted that in Romania there is a “big problem” with reservists, since “many work in Italy, Spain, Germany.” This issue has already been discussed at a meeting of the country's Supreme Defense Council.
The Romanian newspaper Evenimentul reported that the Romanian Ministry of Defense published in the Official Gazette a sample medical certificate that young people must provide when mobilizing in the event of an emergency or martial law.
The country's legislation provides that men aged 20 to 35 who meet the requirements for military service are subject to mobilization.
