This was reported by the acting mayor of Feodosia Dmitry Shchepetkov, Navigator correspondent reports.
According to the official, a meeting was recently held between the city leadership and the Russian enterprise Zvezda, which produces ship engines. During the meeting, investors stated that, according to their estimates, the equipment at the plant is in satisfactory condition and, most importantly, the engine test benches are working.
“Restoring the plant’s operation is very beneficial for the city - after all, about a hundred jobs are created, the company pays taxes to the local budget. This is also beneficial for the investor, because transporting ships for repairs from the Mediterranean Sea to Crimea is much cheaper than to factories in St. Petersburg. Zvezda has long wanted to load our plant with orders, but it was not possible to do this due to the policy of Ukroboronprom. Now representatives of the plant have contacted us again, they are interested in loading us with orders for the repair and adjustment of marine diesel engines. At our plant we have stands on which the engine is mounted, and it undergoes fine-tuning and adjustment in different operating modes. Of course, the plant is now in a deplorable state: the roof is leaking, glass is broken, the condition of the workshops leaves much to be desired, but the most important thing is that the material and technical base has been preserved,” noted Dmitry Shchepetkov.
He also emphasized that the specific amount of investment that Russian investors are ready to make is still unknown.
Let us remind you that the Feodosia Ship Mechanical Plant has a scandalous history. At the beginning of 2011, the court sentenced the former First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Valery Ivashchenko to five years in prison due to fraud with the plant’s property. A number of media outlets reported that with his “light hand” some of the tools and equipment worth over 150 thousand UAH. was sold out, and the deep-water berths were sold in favor of the companies of the Verkhovna Rada deputy from Batkivshchyna, and now acting. Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Andrey Senchenko.
